Have you ever asked new customers how they found you? Did anyone say, ‘I searched Google and found you’?

But here’s the catch: your website might look fine… yet no one’s actually calling you.

That’s the same problem I hear from a lot of contractors. And usually, it comes down to three simple mistakes.

Mistake 1: No SEO Keywords

If your website doesn’t include keywords, it won’t show up when potential customers search for a contractor.

Solution: Add keywords to your website.

Include keywords in your webpage title and content. There are different types of keywords. Use primary keywords on your homepage and informational keywords on your service pages. These keywords will help your customers find you quickly.

Mistake 2: No Call to Action (CTA)

Many websites don’t tell visitors what to do next. Customers come to your site, look around, and leave without guidance.

Solution: Add a CTA.

Guide your customers on what to do in your online store. Display clear calls to action, such as “Call Now” or “Get a Free Estimate,” in multiple places. Urge them to take action.

Mistake 3: Too Much About You, Not Enough About Your Customer

You may be talking too much about your experience and skills. While it’s good to showcase your work, consider why your customer came to your website. They’re looking for something. Focus on their problems, and you’ll show that you understand them.

Solution: State the Customer’s Problem

Frame your content around their frustrations (delays, hidden fees, messy job sites). This builds trust.

If you fix these three things, your website can start working as a real salesperson. You can show up when customers search for a contractor and guide them to take action, resulting in more work.

This is exactly what I help contractors do. If you’d like me to take a quick look at your site and give feedback, let’s connect.
